Even though all the moms are not teens anymore, the show still portrays the consequences of having babies as teens and the effects that still carry over into their young adult years as they move into adult relationships and build families and find careers and work. I love how the show emphasizes how the person you were with and had the baby with generally stays in your life and the repercussions aren't great. Chelsea has to deal with Adam who, although he keeps getting into trouble, starts being a bigger presence in Aubree's life. Kailyn is finding it hard to be without Isaac over summer break while he is with his dad. It is great to see her really grow up emotionally and despite her issues with an absent mom be a good mon herself. I love it! The biggest disappointment is Corey who, after Leah decides to stop giving him a $600 a month break on child support to pay down Ali's medical bills and he isn't, decides to try for primary custody claiming it is the best thing for the girls. This, from a man who refused to look for a safer house for the family when Leah had to descend and climb a rickety basement staircase to bathe the girls in a spider infested area with a tub in it. He wanted a new truck. That is what started their split. Corey might seem nice because he is mild mannered but he is more concerned about money. He is also in denial about the wheelchair for Ali thinking she doesn't need it despite what the doctors say and refuses to fight the insurance company. Leah proved the two missed physical therapy appointments were excused which is the main claim against her. He was content to let things stand until Leah decided to force him to honor the original court agreement for child support instead of cut him a break anymore. He doesn't understand that when you let the court decide what is right for your kids and take the decisions out of the parents' hands you might not like what you get. The judge could decide they are better off in foster care. He could tell Corey to stop being a jerk and tack on more support since his income has increased. I just got through watching a farce where he and his easily controlled robot wife are talking with his dad about how it's all about what's best for the girls. It's all about what's best for Corey's wallet. Regarding Jenelle, if she and Nathan can keep from fighting I think Jace needs to get out of Barbara's house and be with his mom. Barbara yells way too much and she is obviously too tired and impatient to raise a kid and Jace acts out with her. He is way better at Jenelle's and if she can take care of Kaiser she can take care of Jace. She has her act together. I think he acts out because he feels bad that he isn't with his mom and with a brother it is going to be very confusing and hurtful for him. The show has done a great job of covering the range of issues prior to birth moving these girls into adulthood and showing how having a baby in your teens has life long repercussions, good and bad.
