  • One of my all time favorites

    By Tamathy
This is one of my all time favorite mini-series, but I don't recommend this to everyone. You have to like made for TV stuff with a certain kind of production value to enjoy this. I would say this has some of the writing, sets and costuming of Once Upon a Time, with the pacing and feel of SyFy's Tin Man, but with quite a bit more humor and more quirky characters than either of those series. It also helps if you're familiar with certain other live action TV fairy tale projects like 2009's Alice with Kathy Bates, 1999's Magical Legend of the Leprechauns with Randy Quaid, and a bunch of others you'll see in related suggestions. A lot of these are either made by Hallmark or are associated in some way with Hallmark, but they were made before they got really bad and cheesy with those Christmas romance movies they're doing every year. Clocking in at just over 7.5 hours total, this is for people who like to settle in and make a commitment to a fantasy world for a while. It is bloated in places and it could use a heavier hand at editing. One place in particular that grates my last nerve is when Virginia is talking to Snow White in that cave. Camryn Manheim just keeps talking and talking and will not shut up. There are a few other similar spots, and because it's long, I like to play it on a portable device like an iPhone or on my Echo Show while I'm at my desk doing something else. This version is divided into five episodes, so you can take it in small doses if you like. You can get the plot and most other details from other reviews, so I'm just going to say that Scott Cohen is priceless as the wolf here. I love the trolls singing Night Fever, The shepherdess competition and trial in the sheep village are so much fun, I want to go to Kissing Town and the casino there, and I could use some of that troll dust and dwarf moss. You're not going to see mind-blowing special effects, and it won't be anything revolutionary, but you can relax and just enjoy something.

This is one thing from my childhood I will never forget. I remember loving the show, but forgetting its name and struggling for ages to find it again. I'm so glad I finally found what it was called and rediscovered the show, as the story is absolutely captivating! You'll enjoy this mini-series, I give you my solemn wolf word. 😉

I watched it on tv when it first came out! This is the best fantasy movie out there. The graphics are so real! I love this movie! Can't get enough! The only complaint I have, is that House Of Wolves never came out.

The predecessor of "Once Upon a Time" and all the smarty-pants fairy tale shows, this is a great, well-paced miniseries that you will wish had a sequel.
