  • A Cult Classic

I was first introduced to Katsuhiro Ôtomo's Akira when it was it's original manga. When I heard that it was being made into a film, I was very excited. I was fortunate to see it at a sci-fi convention just prior to it's release. If you are a fan of anime, it is required for you to see this film. (well, not really required, but highly suggested.) The fluidity of the animation puts Ôtomo's work above all others and opened a door to modern anime. Katsuhiro Ôtomo is the Akira Kurosawa of anime.
  • It's a movie.

It's nice to have access to this anime classic but it's not an episode. But if that's my biggest gripe then it's a win.
  • Why not under movies?

This isn't what I would call a tv show. Classic and best of its kind
  • downloads as a tv show

something is wrong with the sorting. Its stores it as a tv show. I highly suggest this version with subtitles. I think its a better translation.

Arguably one of the first anime full length feature films that pushed the anime culture into a global phenomenon. This was one of my very first anime dvd’s I bought. The animation is a little dated by today’s standard but remember that this is way before CG. It pushed the envelope when it first came out and set the foundation for all great anime that followed.
  • Good to know both versions are on here

I have only seen the dub, so this will be good. First anime I experienced outside of Speed Racer, confused by Akira being a TV show, but whatever.
