Description

Russell Crowe's directorial debut, "The Water Diviner," is an epic and inspiring tale of one man's life-changing journey of discovery. Crowe plays Australian farmer Joshua Connor, who, in 1919, goes in search of his three missing sons, last known to have fought against the Turks in the bloody Battle of Gallipoli. Arriving in Istanbul, he is thrust into a vastly different world, where he encounters others who have suffered their own losses in the conflict: Ayshe (Olga Kurylenko), a strikingly beautiful but guarded hotelier raising a child alone; her young, spirited son, Orhan (Dylan Georgiades), who finds a friend in Connor; and Major Hasan (Yilmaz Erdoğan), a Turkish officer who fought against Connor's boys and who may be this father's only hope. With seemingly insurmountable obstacles in his path, Connor must travel across the battle-scarred Turkish landscape to find the truth…and his own peace.

This a great sad story that has been that been turned into a great sad and happy movies. Russell Crowe does a great job both directing it and staring. With a great cast the story is told well. The movie industry does not make enough of these type of movies.

Russell Crowe delivers big time in this movie based upon a true story. Excellent character development and this movie shows that even during times of war, and perhaps especially during times of war, that there are timeless virtues and values shared by all mankind. Compassion and love can overcome the ugliest of circumstances. Very well done indeed!

This is one of those rare films that you feel completely swept away in. I felt that Russell Crowe did an outstanding job in his directorial debut. You truly feel like you know every character in the film, and that you can relate to their stories in some way. The film was very respectful in its historical value, as well as compassionate in giving you the view of both sides involved in the horrific battles. This is definitely a movie that I will buy. Partly because I cried so hard when I saw it in the theater that I need to give it a second look.

I enjoyed the story line and how this character transformed his thinking about the enemy. I believe it shows how the civilized world thinks compared to ancient tribal thinking. The Ottoman Empire was once a force and was torn apart by wars.
