This breathtaking film follows an historic attempt to summit the world's most challenging peak on the 100-year anniversary of the Duke of Abruzzi's landmark K2 expedition in 1909. World-class alpinists Fabrizio Zangrilli and Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner team up with veteran climbers Jake Meyer and Chris Szymiec in a dangerous foray of high altitude mountaineering. The documentary also examines the history and geography of the Karakoram mountains while contemplating the risks, rewards and personal nature of exploration in an age when there are few blank spots left on the map. The second highest peak on Earth at 8,611 meters, K2 is also one of the most dangerous mountains to climb - for every four people who have reached the summit of K2, one person has died trying.

  • interesting but cinematography is flawed

The views of the climbers are all from their backsides while they are shlepping up the mountain. No lasting vistas or videos of climbing except rear ends. Rather boring from that viewpoint.
  • Beauty and Humility

This documentary is serious, but not tragic. The humility and hope shown by the climbers, especially Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Fabrizio, are refreshing. You can see the humility and appreciation for K2 and the rest of nature in their eyes. This was one doc where the world-class climbers recognized their limitations rather than just trying to overpower the mountain with human will. Way to go.
  • Amazing display of human will and determination

An awe inspiring journey that that makes you appreciate the incredible amount of risks and rewards that come from this sport. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Must watch! This is the best documentary about extreme climbing out there. If you say it's "boring," go ahead and watch your adrenaline soaked ski porn type movies that are a dime a dozen out there. K2: SIREN OF THE HIMALAYAS puts you in the shoes of the climbers and actually explores why people spend their lives undertaking this harrowing, dangerous sport. The 1909 historical elements are brilliant. Bravo!
