In the world of covert intelligence, only one man is Smart. Steve Carell is in CONTROL as Maxwell Smart, the novice agent often out of his depths but never out of options in this action comedy pitting him against the nuclear scheme of the evil spy group KAOS. Anne Hathaway partners with Max as the ever-capable Agent 99. Director Peter Segal (The Longest Yard) guides his stars (including Dwayne Johnson and Alan Arkin) in an alternately daffy and dangerous realm of molar radios, Max's amazing multi-function pocketknife and more gizmos from lab nerds Bruce (Masi Oka) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence). Laughs, excitement, exploding dental floss--Get Smart is armed and hilarious.

  • Could have been much better

The casting is great. The jokes are few and far in between. Max is sporadically clumsy and at times very competent making his character inconsistent. Agent 99 is sexy as planned. The surprise doesn’t Bmw agent outing is totally predictable. It’s like an American equivalent of The Johnny English flicks but not nearly as hilarious.
  • Enough with the Bush Bashing

    By Philbert81
Hollywood needs to stay out of politics. The movie was funny until they started bashing President Bush

I cannot personally compare this to the original series due to the fact I haven't watched it. But this is a very funny movie, cheerful or not. If you need something to cheer you up, watch this movie.
  • For me and my sister, this is a cult classic.

Seriously, we can quote most of the lines from this movie because we have seen it so many times, and it gets funnier every time! Seriously, it is worth watching. Steve Carrell is insanely funny, and the rest of the cast backs him up perfectly. This is definitely one of those movies where you should just sit back and have fun. Watch this and laugh!
  • Good, not great

I have the film 5 stars just to bring up its reputation a bit. It's corny, and dorky, but also hilarious and heartfelt. The dance scene will always crack me up. Please give it a shot, it's a lot of fun.

A updated version of the classic show. Very funny, smart, and Steve Carrell, at still stays true to the show

I cracked up so hard at this movie!! I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to comedy considering most of them can be pretty idiotic, but this one was just hilarious.
  • Get Some Chemistry

    By Uncle Maffers
Get Smart is certainly watchable, but it suffers from a lack of chemistry between its two leads. Carrell is perfectly cast as Maxwell Smart, but the much younger Hathaway is all wrong for her role. As played by Barbara Feldon in the 60’s, Agent 99 is a mature spy with a kittenish, playful sexiness and flinty voice. The chilliness between Carrell and Hathaway is partly due to the way the dialogue is written, but a hot, 40-ish actress like Tea Leoni or Marissa Tomei would have made it all work.
