Description

Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) is a modern woman on a quest to marvel at and travel the world while rediscovering and reconnecting with her true inner self in Eat Pray Love. At a crossroads after a divorce, Gilbert takes a year-long sabbatical from her job and steps uncharacteristically out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life. In her wondrous and exotic travels, she experiences the simple pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of love in Bali. Based on an inspiring true story, Eat Pray Love proves that there really is more than one way to let yourself go and see the world.

As Julia's side kick says "I'm mad (about you going) because I'm jealous; I want to go" It's the kind of mid-life soul searching one dreams about. Lovely Italian acquaintenances and delicious food. Resolution of past hurt during spiritual retreat in India. And, a latin lover in Bali as the cherry on top. As a beyond-the-hill boomer I related to the search for meaning Julia undertakes. I wish I had spent mmore time doing this myself. She's good here. As is the rest of the cast. Lovely scenery. Pretty people. Platinum card. No guns. Escapist entertainment just how we like it.

I was shocked to only see 3 stars! This is one of my all time favorite movies! It really made me want to take a trip to Bali too! :-)

  • An Inspiration

This movie inspired me to join the peace corps. It’s about self-awknowlegemnt and learning. How you must understand yourself and your place in the world before you can begin to worry about others. And, that life’s journey can be mislead and derailed at any point, but you can learn from everyone and everything. Though it sometimes comes off slightly unrealistic and even frivolous the story is genuine and inspiring.

Eat Pray Love actually made me think, which is what a good movie SHOULD do. While the movie had room for better execution (like 90% of other movies), Julia Roberts' performance was touching and realistic. I also love the scenery; it's absolutely beautiful. I personally love the movie and don't think it deserves the flack it gets.

I like Julia Roberts and some of her movies, but this one was one of the ones I really didn't like. I tried to watch it but I couldn't finish it because of it's slow pace. Overall, Julia Roberts was good, but I just really couldn't watch it because it bored me. 2/5
  • Book Way Better

A friend sent the book as a gift, and I loved it so much. It seemed very real and authentic. As soon as I was finished with it, I knew i wanted to see the movie, not realizing it got so many bad reviews. But it was true, the movie did not stand up at all to the book, in my opinion. In fact, if you didn’t read the book and know the story, I think the movie would seem rather disjointed.

I love this movie! If you haven't traveled...you should, if you haven't searched for God just once you should! For those that hate this movie take a trip to an exotic place and experience life and you will get it. Again I love this movie and have done everything she has.
