Description

A kind of African Queen gone berserk, "Overboard" chronicles the misadventures of a bitchy society queen (Goldie Hawn) who lives on a luxury yacht with her class-conscious husband (Edward Herrmann) and put-upon butler (Roddy McDowall). When the yacht docks for "repairs" (that is, for more closet space), Hawn refuses to pay the local carpenter (Kurt Russell) because he used oak instead of cedar for the closets. The post-refusal argument results in Hawn pushing Russel overboard. Hawn falls overboard herself and is rescued by a garbage scow. However, she remembers nothing of her pampered past. Through a series of high-energy, high-wit escapades the two protagonists find each other, the kids turn into lollipops and all is well that ends well. Garry Marshall directed with aplomb.

Of course there's going to be great chemistry between Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, they've been madly in love off screen for decades. The script is really funny, and everything just comes together so perfectly. I highly recommend watching this (or buying it), I think I've seen it about 4 or 5 times and I'll definitely watch it again!

I’ll admit rom-coms at any point can be cheesy, but I’ll admit that I’ve seen rom-com TRAILERS that are cheesier than this movie. The aspect that this movie has that not a lot of other movies have is that there are kids throughout the film, as in they are related to the main character. They add another humorous aspect to the movie. A great rent!

This movie is a classic! I own it on VHS, but id rather pay the money to watch it in quality HD. Still hilarious to watch!

I rented this to watch at home with the family and was quite embarrassed by many scenes. I guess I had only seen edited-for-TV versions before. I love the movie and I love Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn in it. Just was a little shocked at the number of scenes that made me cringe while watching with my family.

I think I just love Goldie Hawn. She is so good in the role of snotty rich lady gone poor, this movie is hilarious!

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel are great, and great together. The movie really moves along. One of the nice things about movies of this era is that they didn't take themselves too seriously. It's light-hearted, warm and funny. I've always liked Goldie Hawn, and I was really impressed with how genuine and believable she was in this role.
  • Funny as hell

A classic and one of the few with the couple together.
