Description

The 2018 SXSW Audience Award-winning feature film debut by Gabriel Silverman, Fiona Dawson, & Jamie Coughlin, TransMilitary follows the Emmy-nominated short film Transgender, at War and in Love. Around 15, 500 transgender people serve in the U. S. military (notably the largest transgender employer in the U. S. ), where they must conceal their gender identity because military policies ban their service. TransMilitary chronicles the lives of four individuals (Senior Airman Logan Ireland, Corporal Laila Villanueva, Captain Jennifer Peace & First Lieutenant El Cook) defending their country’s freedom while fighting for their own. They put their careers and their families’ livelihoods on the line by coming out as transgender to top brass officials in the Pentagon in hopes of attaining the equal right to serve. The ban was lifted in 2016, but with President Trump now trying to reinstate it, their futures hang in the balance once again.

In a modern day America where our “leadership” is trying to pretend that Trans people do not exist, this film is so important! Visibility and representation matter. The fact that these men and women put their lives on the line for their country and are then being told they cannot serve is ridiculous. They are more American than our president will ever be. Thank you for shedding the light on this topic. Well done!

Don’t waste your time. Editors choice is not due to the quality of the movie. Clearly selected only to make an ideological statement. I’ve seen interesting movies that affect my conservative values but this is not one of them. Apple sacrificing credibility to push liberal agenda, so sad.

This shows the dedication and bravery of men and women that are ridiculed for no other reason then being born differently! All we want to do is serve our country. I love that love overcomes hate with the reviews!

I served in the military and I wouldn’t want a mentality confused person next to me during combat.

An engaging look at the stories of U.S. transgender service members. We get to know them as people just like anyone else who want to serve their country. Has a nice balance of facts about military spending on things such as health care for transgender service members and other costs in the military, while allowing us to get to know these service members and their families. Highly recommended.

Wonderful expose. Not everyone is binary. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.

As a lesbian Service Member, this was very emotional to watch. Serving under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" for nearly a decade took a serious, enduring toll on my fellow Soldiers and I. After the repeal, our Trans brothers and sisters were tragically left behind. It's the courage of individuals like the ones featured in this documentary that changes our world and our military for the better.
