A stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of free solo climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream:scaling the face of the world’s most famous rock — the 3,200-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park — without a rope. Renowned filmmakers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin capture the death-defying climb with exquisite artistry and masterful, vertigo-inducing camerawork.

Honestly, I couldn’t get through this movie. Beautiful scenery but I couldn’t stand this guy. He came off pompous and arrogant. The trailers were enough for me.

To all those who watch this I dare you not to look away. I once tried rock climbing it scared the hell out of me. So instead I became a hang glider. Looking back at it now I think of all the people who told me what I was doing was crazy risking my life. Luckily. I lived to tell the tale.
  • Wow!

This guy is crazy :). This documentary was awesome, my hands were actually sweating watching him make the climb and we were all on the edge of our seats. Great film!
  • Boring and predictable

First of all, before this documentary came out the Grammy’s spoiled the ending for this, so that makes it very predictable. Also, the movie is 1:30:00 and 10:00 of the climb. Awful document, at least he did the impossible.
  • Offers the complete story of what it takes to free solo.

This a truly well done documentary, with a broad focus on the motivation, inner fortitude, resolve and athleticism required to acheive a climb up El Cap without ropes. I found Alex Honnold to be a deeply interesting and inspirational character, not to mention occasionally laugh-out-loud funny. (!) During the making of this documentary, Alex acquires a girlfriend and the ways in which that affects and complicates the climb makes this more that a one-dimensional adventure story. The photography is astounding, and it's intense to watch the climb, even knowing that he makes it. Highly recommend!
  • Testing Yourself X 10

For anyone who is fascinated by the psychology of extreme athletes, this is a must see. Quite fascinating to witness the narrow focus it takes to achieve a goal. The driving force behind this climb comes from deep within the climber. It saps away so much energy it creates unbalanced relationships. You see Immense courage, remarkable skill (math/physics style), and his personal resolve. A thrilling movie, but one filled with shots at great heights. The photography is remarkable. The danger of climbing El Capitan is real, and the level of execution is beyond X.
