From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

    A must watch. Visually stunning
  • Nothing like the book.

First off, Ludus wasn’t even mentioned once. Aech is black, which goes against Book Aech’s reasoning. Ridiculous. The challenges and the gate weren’t the same. I-rok wasn’t even supposed to appear more than once, and that appearance was supposed to be in the basement. Which I didn’t see till the end of the movie. Basically everything was different. And also, Wade’s avatar looks different than what was described in the book. On the other hand, everything in the oasis was beautifully rendered. It looked realistic, but not so realistic that you couldn’t tell the difference from real life, which was amazing. Challenges were different, yes, but I guess that was to have new challenges as to have the readers discover new challenges along with Parzival and the High Five.
  • I love it!!!

    This is amazing
  • Voiceovers + cliches

How people can watch movies with endless voiceovers explaining every nuance of a character's emotions at the time, not to mention the plot, is a mystery to me. It's especially painful watching this because Spielberg was known for his ability to tell stories visually, without voiceovers.

I read the book for on of my classes and fell in love with the story line. However, once I finished the book and decided to watch the movie I was angry. The movie was nothing like the book, they got everything messed up or backwards and it was frustrating. If youre going to make a movie based on a book you need to number one follow the order of the events and two start at the beginning not the middle. I wish the movie was even remotley close to how good the book was, but that isn’t what happened. If you are a person who reads the books then I dont suggest watching the movie, you will be irritated.
