One man becomes a symbol of hope and determination for a wounded city in Stronger, a deeply personal account of the infamous 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath. Based on Jeff Bauman’s New York Times bestselling memoir, the film celebrates his unrelenting courage against unimaginable odds. On April 15, 2013, Bauman (Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal) was at the finish line of the Boston Marathon to cheer on his ex-girlfriend Erin Hurley (Emmy Award winner Tatiana Maslany) in an effort to win her back. When a blast rips through the crowd, killing three people and injuring scores of others, Jeff goes from being an ordinary working-class 27-year-old to a double amputee fighting for his life. As Boston and the world reel in shock and anger, a photo of Jeff being carried from the blast site becomes an iconic image of the attack. Despite his injuries, the unassuming Costco worker becomes a national hero by helping law enforcement identify one of the bombers. In the months following the blast, Jeff tackles intensive physical and emotional rehabilitation with the unwavering support of Erin and his family. It is Jeff’s deeply personal account of the heroic journey that tests a family’s bond, defines a community’s pride and inspires his inner courage to overcome a devastating adversity.

  • Utter rubbish!!

This could’ve been a great story. Too bad. Maybe if they focused more on drawing the audience in instead of trying so hard to make it some fancy schmancy load of artistic crap, I wouldn’t have fallen into a coma. I was so bored I thought I’d never regain consciousness. I don’t get why it got such great reviews. I’ve had better times doing my taxes.
  • A great movie but hard to watch.

The movie was not about anything but a man who’s life was forever changed. And that’s that. Jake was amazing as usual. I thought all involved made a great movie. ‘’Low life, no life, beer drinking, smokers’’ HUH? As far as I know, there has been only one person to walk this earth who was perfect, and it ain’t you old enough.
  • Ugh.

    By old enough to remember
Victims aren’t always heroes or very heroic, and don’t always make good stories , despite the best efforts of the culture of victimhood. No offense to the real Bouman; I won’t pretend to know the facts of his life. This movie was dreadful. I didn’t care about a single person. (and being from Boston, I am so sick of the ignorant, no-class, low-class, beer-swilling, cigarette-smoking stereotype.) The true “hero” of that day was The man who saved Bauman’s life. We see him briefly in the movie, learn a tiny bit about him, and I think his was the story to tell. But he didn’t write a book.....

Being from Massachusetts about20 minutes north of Boston- the bombing really effected me. Maybe because I was born there, I've run that marathon as well as other ppl in my family. This isn't totally accurate but that's ok. It gets the point across in a touching And emotional way that I think anyone who has ever dealt with a bad hand can relate to. This flick for me was really great. Acting superb as well as the supporting actors and script. I hope we all pull together through these rough times we're all dealing with. Wars, mass shootings etc. awareness is I hope for all of us a 1 st step in preventing more hideous things like this happening. Foot note 📝- If you want to get an ide of this actors (Jake G) earlier brilliance, rent Source Code. I own it and love ❤️ that movie 🎥. Footnote- rented this today and I give it 7 stars ✨. It's awesomely done ✅

As a runner I will never forget the day this happened. This movie does a wonderful job evoking the emotions that I imagine a multitude of Americans felt that day and the days after. Jake Gyllenhaal was outstanding as usual. A must see for everyone!
  • One of the best movies this year

Beautiful true story that touches your heart over and over again reminding you how strong the human spirit can be. Thank you Jeff Bauman for being who you are and his wife Erin, reminding us that love can conquer all. Brilliant acting by Jake Gyllenhaal, some scenes were so real and raw that my sister and I were sobbing lol. Loved seeing Tatiana Maslany outside of Orphan Black, amazing show, who of course is brilliant in this movie as well. If you need to be reminded and inspired about the power within, watch this movie.
