Great movie great story great special effects. It is like a parallel story. While the fifth element was happening on earth, valerian was happening on outer space.

Ok, this review may contain a few spoilers. Nothing major however, as in you'd get more spoilers out of a preview. As *everyone* notes, the visuals are fantastic. On par with Avatar. No debate about that. Storyline could have used a bit more work, and the leading man really was more of a leading emo. Sure as heck did NOT strike me as a Major in a Federation Military. Too immature, squeaky voiced and young for a major. The movie was named after the male character lead. Frankly with him dragging the pace and such, I think the leading lady should have been named Valerian and the movie named after her. Cara Delavigne frackin' rocked her part. This was only the second movie I've seen her in, the first being Suicide Squad. Wasn't overly impressed with that one, but this one got my attention. She did a great job I think in her role here. I look forward to seeing her performances in the future with better scripts. The story is slow to start, as they *have* to take time to "world build". It starts moving faster after the first 30 minutes or so. The end actually does tie up story threads, so it wasn't a waste of time to watch. Kind of cliche' ending, almost scooby doo-ish. But after watching, I didn't feel that I'd wasted my money. If you can rent this, do so. It's definitely worth a rental. A purchase? Try for a discounted price on it, but it would be worth that too. Fair disclosure: I purchased.
  • 2 stars are generous.

Visually appealing, but the story is weak. Anyone giving more than 2 stars must be smoking crack. I see some 5 star reviews for this and there is no way that this movie is great like Lawrence of Arabia, or The Godfather (both real 5 Star movies). The lead actor is AWFUL. Where did they find such a one dimensional actor? He reminds me of the guy that played Anakin Skywalker (Hayden whatever). Yes, that bad.
  • It’s what you expect, only a little worse

The story is decent, the SFX are outstanding, the acting is horrible. Delevigne delivers some of the worst lines with zero acting skills. She absolutely ruins what could have at least been a 3-Star movie.

I really enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I will probably buy it so I can watch it again!

The negative reviews are wrong. Great acting, great story. Amazing vision and storytelling. This is fifth element but with nuance, grit, realism that plants markers of what the human condition will be like in the distant future. It is at once optimistic and realistic, dry witted and vivid. A well read individual would not be confused and frustrated by this movie. The multi dimensional nature of the flick literally and figuratively is both liberating and all too rare. Wish there was more out of box sci fi like this.

  • Worst leading actors

No chemistry, terrible dialogue delivery, 'nuff said. Even if the rest of the movie has compelling elements, getting beyond the two leading actors is nearly impossible.
